Story
I absolutely loved making the art for this year's advent calendar, but especially for the box art! Initially, in the sketch phase, I had no idea of how intense I was going to get with the detail of this piece -- I hadn't thought of the scavenger hunt until I was starting to work on the linework. There are always a lot of stories going through my head, and most of the time, I decide not to include those little random ideas I get so far into the finalization phase. But almost everything in this piece was me working on an area and thinking "wouldn't it be funny if there were thieving mushrooms" or "oh man, I love the idea of ghosts exchanging gifts."
The most important part of art, to me, is the storytelling capabilities of any given piece. As humans, storytelling is how we communicate how we're feeling about things we may not even realize; it's a way to address important topics, to boost our morale, and to communicate our individuality. Storytelling through art is how I convey the thoughts, ideas, and feelings that I can't express through words. So, I really hope this piece speaks to you and boosts your morale in some type of way this Christmas season☺️
